Young Calibration

Calibration laboratory located Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex bringing customers throughout the UK a cost effective and quality instrument calibration services, either laboratory based, mobile or onsite. Housing seven separate test and calibration laboratories the company is continuing its expansion plans into new industrial sectors. Specialising in air flow meter calibration with traceable and UKAS ISO 17025 accredited facilities for air flow, water flow and oil flow meters. Our wide ranging water flow meter calibration facilities can accommodate all types of flowmeters on air, gases, water, oil, petrol, diesel, kerosene, hydrocarbons, aviation fuel, Jet A1, Shellsol, ISO 4113 fuel pump fluid, Skydrol, nitrogen, propane, carbon dioxide, helium and argon. Our experienced engineers have product knowledge of turbine flowmeters, magnetic, vortex, positive displacement, ultrasonic, thermal mass, nutating disc, clamp on, coriolis, orifice, wedge, venture, sonic nozzles, rotary gas meters, diaphragm, sliding vane and laminar flow meters. The extensive flowmetering facility offers one of the widest ranges of services within the UK, and is one of only a few laboratories that offer UKAS accredited calibrations for water, oil and air flow meters. The company covers an array of industries, although primarily specialising in the automotive, aerospace and medical sectors, calibration parameters are also applied across environmental, process, utilities, rail, marine, pharmaceutical, biomedical and oil and gas sectors. The automotive department covers everything for the engine test environment, including load, speed, emissions, smoke opacity and electrical, on test beds, test cells, test rigs, rolling roads and vehicle emissions laboratories. Our engineers have experience with equipment from AVL, Horiba, Test Automation, CP, Froude, Ono Sokki, Superflow, Pierburg, Kistler and Datron covering end of line pass off tests to full performance and emissions R&D test beds. The aerospace division is responsible for the immense variety of fuels and flow calibrations, being used throughout the combustion, cooling and transmission systems. The medical laboratory covers the specialised calibration equipment used across many EBME departments, hospitals, surgeries and medic centres for blood infusion devices, ventilator testers, multi parameter testers, gas testers, oxygen meters, flow analysers, leak testers and pressure calibrators. They cover a host of models from Fluke, Biotek, Metron, Rigel, Draeger, Fogg, Pace, Timeter, IMT Medical. Our mobile engineers can also undertake sea voyage projects aboard cruise liners, ships and vessels for onboard medical equipment calibration.

To compliment these services, the laboratory also covers temperature, pressure, humidity, mass, electrical, vibration, velocity, frequency, torque, sound intensity, dimensional and force to its calibrating services. The range of equipment services allows instrument calibration of RTD probes, thermocouples, sensors, transmitters, transducers, accelerometers, microphones, anemometers, pat testers, insulation, RCD, loop, meggers, wrenches, scopes, multimeters, chart recorders, counters and timers.

The smaller of the two wind tunnels houses a versatile variable speed wind tunnel for the calibration of wind speed devices such as pitot tubes, vane anemometers, thermal anemometers and ultrasonic anemometers. Air velocity speeds are capable from 0.1 m/s to 40 metres per second.

The larger of the wind tunnels is dedicated to calorimetric radiator testing of automotive radiators, intercoolers, chargecoolers, oil coolers, cab heaters, transmissions coolers, motorsport ductwork, side pods, fan testing and any derivative of a fluid flow heat exchanger. Having various modular systems for coolant flow, oil flow, charge flow and blast air cooling, a full thermal evaluation assessment can be conducted of many types of heat exchangers. Results will typically include heat rejection, heat dissipation, thermal effectiveness, efficiency, airside pressure drop, fluid pressure drop, face velocity and fluid mass flows. Primarily used for automotive, motorsport and marine sectors the facility can quickly turnaround thermal heat exchangers tests within 1 day for F1, Nascar, IRL, Indy Car, Champ Car, vehicle, motorcycle and truck manufacturers. Thermal imaging of the component on test can be undertaken with a Land Infrared thermal imaging camera setup. UKAS accreditation is granted within the test laboratory for the thermal testing of vehicle radiators. Additionally, heat exchangers from CHP, compressors, and chiller plants can be thermally tested upto 3 bar boost, 100°C coolant temperature and 110°C oil temperature.

New developments within the laboratory continue with the research and development of microfluid flow systems, covering flow measurements and its’ associated calibration issues.
