Schools
Cultures have been using schools for thousands of years
& the principle role of the school has changed very little
throughout those years. Schools provide our next generation
with the knowledge they require to improve on preconceived
ideas & even come up with fresh innovative ideas to help
move our civilisation forward. We use schools to help
us improve ourselves in all walks of life & a few of the
areas we provide schooling for include higher education,
driving, flying, dancing or even to learn a trade.
Some of the oldest schools in the UK include The King's
School in Canterbury, founded in 597 AD, The King's school
in Rochester, founded in 604 AD & St Peter's School in
York which was founded in 627 AD. Many of our older schools
still hold true to their individual customs & ways of
thinking by teaching more traditional subjects. On the
other hand the majority of schools founded in more recent
years have become extremely flexible in the subjects they
cater for & this provides us with a very good balance
of schooling.
Some of our older schools not only provide us with excellent
educational facilities, they can also present us with
fantastic examples of historical architecture. For example
The King's school in Canterbury, mentioned earlier, is
located on a World Heritage Centre as it holds architecture
dating back to 597 AD. Other schools which also possess
great examples of architecture are Wells Cathedral School
in Somerset, Stoneyhurst College in Lancashire, & Warwick
School.
